"THE ROBIN WILLIAMS CHALLENGE"
I will be revising my "Fan Wall" all through December.
|
Forty-two years ago, Robin told me he thought I should quit teaching because he thought I could succeed as a professional comedienne. But comedy was my avocation, not my vocation. However, after I retired from teaching, I imagined a "Robin Williams Challenge", testing his "thesis", to see how much viable material I could create in a year. But then, COVID hit, and I lost the opportunity to refine and revise old material or develop new material. In order not to forget what I have created, and allow me to create new material. I built a "comedy studio" in my garage, affectionately called "Garage Comedy" where I perform in front of a comedy "fan wall", a "virtual audience, with pictures of my loyal friends, cheering me on. Admittedly, this particular page is my "work space", a place to evaluate and revise my material, but also a replacement for Prevagen. At my advancing age, it will get harder to remember all of this.

1985 PERFORMANCE FOR THE PTA
|
I recently found this video and was surprised to discover I really did have budding talent. Historical Context. I never needed an agent when I performed, as Shirley Hemphill, of "What's Happening" fame, let me open up for her. Shirley was my Maid of Honor, and bought me my first Apple Computer on the condition I quit comedy, focus on education and my husband. She felt I would better impact humanity as a teacher, not a comedienne. Then, the comedy ecosystem did not appreciate woman anyways. So, I left LA scene and performed occasionally at small venues like this PTA meeting. There is a lot of material in here I will try to repurpose. |
